I’ve been a lover of stories ever since I was a child, hanging out in my parents wooded backyard in southeastern Connecticut and sticking my nose in every book I could get my grubby hands on.
My childhood was dominated by fantastical stories of wizards and witches, children of Greek gods and goddesses, and kids not much older than I was going on grand, alluring adventures.
Needless to say, it made me want to pursue an adventure of my own. This is how I ended up devoting my entire educational and professional career to building and refining my creative writing skills. I started the journey by earning a BA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing.
I studied creative writing because, yes, I wanted to create stories of my own, but also because I wanted to create stories that meant something to other people. I wanted to be the storyteller, sculpting these intriguing worlds and relatable characters from blank, white pages to help other people escape from whatever worries were plaguing their minds that day, or better yet, help other people discover their potential. Because writing has the power to do all of these things and more.
When people choose a book, an article, or a blog to read, they’re usually looking to gain something from it. Advice, reassurance, hope, or just simple entertainment.
